This two-day workshop is an invitation to explore the sonic possibilities of clay through the study of ceramic technologies inspired by sound-producing vessels and instruments from the pre-Columbian cultures of the Americas.
Over the course of two days, we will delve into the world of sound ceramics, investigating the relationship between form, air, and sound. We will share technical tools and knowledge to help participants understand how sound is generated within clay and how it can be incorporated into a ceramic piece to create a sounding instrument.
The first part of the workshop will focus on discovering the fundamental principles that allow clay to produce sound, drawing inspiration from a variety of acoustic technologies found in pre-Columbian sound objects throughout the Americas.
Participants who feel ready to take their exploration further will have the opportunity to develop either a whistling vessel or a globular flute, forms that involve more complex construction techniques. The aim is not to reproduce specific historical models, but rather to understand the acoustic and structural principles behind ceramic sound bodies and to develop a personal creative approach based on them.
The workshop offers a collaborative learning experience in which exchange, observation, and experimentation are essential parts of the creative process. Through images, visual references, and hands-on building exercises, we will study ancient sound objects and explore how different pre-Columbian cultures developed sophisticated sonic technologies through ceramics.
The workshop is suitable for both beginners and experienced potters.



The images shared are intended as references and represent outcomes achieved through extended periods of practice and research. Due to the technical complexity of these pieces, each participant’s results will vary according to their previous experience and the time dedicated during the workshop.
About the Facilitator
The workshop will be held by Julieta Piccirilli, who is currently working in our studio through the Erasmus Internship programme. Julieta was born in Argentina and moved to Spain in 2021. She studied at the Manises School of Ceramics and has continued to deepen her knowledge of ceramic techniques rooted in the traditions of the Americas through studies with Analía Rodríguez in Argentina and through courses with Unchi Maka Cerámica.
Her journey into sound ceramics began in Portugal alongside Bruna Ariana Freitas. The sound vessels featured in the reference images were created in collaboration with Nómada Cerámica, an Argentinian collective. She completed her art residency with them, learning and researching which made the development of these pieces possible.

ZVOČNE SKULPTURE
Dvodnevna delavnica je povabilo k raziskovanju zvočnih možnosti gline skozi spoznavanje keramičnih tehnologij, navdihnjenih z zvočnimi posodami in glasbili predkolumbovskih kultur Amerik.
V dveh dneh se bomo poglobili v svet zvočne keramike ter raziskovali odnos med obliko, zrakom in zvokom. Delili bomo tehnična znanja in orodja, ki bodo udeležencem pomagala razumeti, kako zvok nastaja v glini in kako ga je mogoče vključiti v keramični predmet ter tako ustvariti zvočno glasbilo.
Prvi del delavnice bo posvečen odkrivanju temeljnih načel, ki glini omogočajo ustvarjanje zvoka. Pri tem bomo črpali navdih iz različnih akustičnih tehnologij, prisotnih v zvočnih predmetih predkolumbovskih kultur po vsej Ameriki.
Udeleženci, ki bodo želeli svoje raziskovanje poglobiti, bodo imeli možnost izdelati žvižgajočo posodo ali kroglasto keramično piščal, obliki, ki vključujeta zahtevnejše konstrukcijske tehnike. Cilj delavnice ni poustvarjanje konkretnih zgodovinskih modelov, temveč razumevanje akustičnih in konstrukcijskih načel, ki stojijo za keramičnimi zvočnimi telesi ter razvijanje lastnega ustvarjalnega pristopa na njihovi osnovi.
Delavnica ponuja izkušnjo skupnostnega učenja, v kateri so izmenjava znanja, opazovanje in eksperimentiranje bistveni del ustvarjalnega procesa. S pomočjo fotografij, vizualnih referenc in praktičnih vaj bomo raziskovali starodavne zvočne predmete ter spoznavali, kako so različne predkolumbovske kulture s pomočjo keramike razvile dovršene zvočne tehnologije.
Delavnica je primerna tako za začetnike kot tudi izkušene.



Priložene fotografije so zgolj referenčne narave in prikazujejo rezultate, dosežene po daljšem obdobju raziskovanja in prakse. Zaradi tehnične zahtevnosti teh oblik bodo rezultati posameznih udeležencev različni in odvisni od predhodnih izkušenj ter časa, namenjenega delu med delavnico.
O izvajalki delavnice
Delavnico bo vodila Julieta Piccirilli, ki trenutno ustvarja v našem studiu v okviru programa Erasmus Internship. Julieta se je rodila v Argentini, leta 2021 pa se je preselila v Španijo. Izobraževala se je na keramični šoli v Manisesu, svoje znanje keramičnih tehnik, ki izhajajo iz tradicij Amerik, pa je poglabljala pri Analíi Rodríguez v Argentini ter na tečajih Unchi Maka Cerámica.
Njena pot v svet zvočne keramike se je začela na Portugalskem pod mentorstvom Brune Ariane Freitas. Zvočna posoda, prikazana na referenčnih fotografijah, je nastala v sodelovanju z argentinskim kolektivom Nómada Cerámica, kjer je med umetniško rezidenco poglabljala svoje znanje in raziskovala tehnike, ki so omogočile razvoj tega dela.
